The story starts with the protagonist comes back to this "ghost town" after being sentenced for killing his same-sex partner in Germany. The catalyst for the story is the return of the youngest son, Keith, a gay man who returns to Taiwan during its Ghost Festival after spending years in German prison for killing his domestic partner. At the beginning, Keith notes that his German lover T always asked him where he was from and wanted to know more about his origins.
