Bye bye boy Our founding producer, Toshio Suzuki, challenged Miyazaki to make a film that takes place over a much longer period of time. Leachman acts as the seasoned legend since she has considerable experience as a voice actor, having worked on projects like The Iron Giant Brad Bird, and the earlier Ghibli text Laputa: Castle in the Sky. In Howl, Grandma Sophie is the protagonist of the film. I argue that the intersection of these stages acts to multiply and accentuate both critical attention created by the international film festival stage and popular success evidenced within the regional stage so that it appears that a range of consumers from every corner of the globe are simultaneously lauding the film in question.
